How do I create a Garbage Club ?

New garbage clubs are created from the garbolarship (garbage-scholarship). This awarded to anyone looking to create their own Garbage Club. Garbage Club will provide equipment, advice and media support to help make it a success.

What we provide:

Garbage picks, buckets, and a waterproof speaker. We also help in the creation of your media account, list it on our website and advertise through our various social platforms and promoters.

Requirements:

In order to qualify for the garbolarship you must provide your written commitment to perform the following:

  1. Use each provided Garbage Pick at least four times. We will provide you with your requested number of picks to host the number of pickers you think you will be able to support.

  2. Create a social media account or website for your Garbage Club which states the time of week and location of your Garbage Picks at least 24 hours prior to the pick time. If you are meeting on a regular cadence [weekly, bi-weekly], please give ample notice in the case of a cancellation.

  3. Upon meeting at the desired location, upon the start of the Garbage Pick, read the following:

Welcome to [your faction name] Garbage Picker Club, a group of citizens with a collective goal to take responsibility for their community and the desire to be the change they wish to see in the world. We are not a business, charity, religious, environmental, or political association. There is no cost or commitment to membership.

For the next [the length of the pick] minutes we will pick up trash wherever we can find. There is no right way to do it, this is your time to enjoy taking responsibility for your community. At the end of the [the length of the pick] minutes we will meet back here to return the equipment.

After which, you can make your own remarks or add your flavour. In Toronto, we read a poem about changing the world.

  1. Play music from the speaker and do the cleanup!

  2. Upon completion of the community cleanup, take a picture and post it to your social media account. This is to spread the word and also prove the Garbage Picks are being used.
